NLC launches 12-unit climate training manual, calls for energy sovereignty and fair finance ahead of COP31
environewsnigeria.comThe Nigeria Labour Congress has released a 12-unit training manual on climate change, green jobs, and just transition, developed with support from the International Labour Organization. The manual targets shop-floor workers and covers renewable energy, grid infrastructure, green construction, circular economy, sustainable transport, and reskilling for workers moving out of carbon-intensive industries. It also includes collective bargaining, measurement and reporting, and climate politics. At the Tripartite Pre-COP31 meeting in Abuja, NLC officials called for energy sovereignty and fair climate finance, warning that Africa should not replace fossil fuel dependence with dependence on foreign technology and loans. The union also proposed project and implementation indexes to track whether the training leads to measurable results. COP31 runs from November 9 to November 20, 2026.
