Nippon Biofuel Co is launching a 44 million USD project to establish biofuel infrastructure in Mozambique and Ghana. The initiative aims to produce 400,000 tonnes of jatropha-based biofuel annually by 2032 to decarbonize international shipping. Supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the project integrates fuel production with carbon removal through biochar and afforestation. It seeks to diversify energy sources for Japanese maritime companies while supporting rural development in Africa.
