NIOT Develops High-Altitude Drone for Weather and Pollution Monitoring
timesofindia.indiatimes.comResearchers at the National Institute of Ocean Technology in Chennai have developed a high-altitude hexacopter drone capable of reaching 5km. The drone is designed to collect precise atmospheric data and monitor pollutants including carbon dioxide, ozone, and nitrogen oxides to improve weather forecasting and climate research. Built with carbon composite materials and solid-state batteries, the UAV is engineered for thin-air conditions and high wind speeds. This project is part of India's Mission Mausam program to strengthen weather observation and study the drivers of heatwaves and cyclonic systems.
