Nine workers at the Newport News Shipbuilding facility were hospitalized after suffering symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure. The incident occurred while employees were working inside a submarine unit located in the northern section of the shipyard. Huntington Ingalls Industries is currently investigating the cause of the leak. The shipyard is one of the largest military shipbuilding operations in the United States.

Working inside a submarine hull is a classic confined space risk. If they were using gas powered tools or heaters without proper ventilation, this is exactly how it happens. Wonder if they had active monitoring in place or just relied on manual checks.
