Nigeria is launching initiatives to replace traditional firewood cooking with clean cookstoves and solar home systems to reduce indoor air pollution and carbon emissions. The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is leading these efforts through its Zero Carbon Project to improve health outcomes for women and children in rural areas. Private sector partnerships are scaling the rollout, including a manufacturing agreement for 24 million stoves and a proposed 10 billion dollar investment to reach 80 million households. These projects aim to curb deforestation and lower greenhouse gas emissions by shifting low-income families toward sustainable energy alternatives.
