Greenplinth Africa Ltd is rolling out 80 million clean cookstoves across Nigeria, aiming to cut household emissions and generate carbon credits at a massive scale. The stoves will be distributed free under a lease model, with households receiving monthly cooking support, healthcare, and biomass briquettes over 15 years. Each stove includes a 30 year warranty and a digital monitoring device that records usage data on blockchain for carbon credit verification. A pilot in Lagos's Makoko settlement showed dramatic results. Households cut daily firewood use from 22 pounds to about 1 pound after switching to the clean stoves. Nearly 97% of pilot households stopped using multiple fuel sources entirely. The company also plans to plant four billion trees alongside the stove program. The scale of this project is massive, but the real test will be whether the monitoring and verification system holds up across millions of units over time.
