Nigeria's Federal Government and the Nigerian Environmental Summit Group (NESUG) are calling for more green financing to tackle climate change and boost the economy. At the NESt 2026 summit in Abuja, officials highlighted carbon markets, blended finance, renewable energy, and waste-to-wealth projects as key tools. The Minister of Environment said Nigeria must position itself to benefit from emerging climate investment opportunities. The summit brought together government agencies, development partners, and private sector players. Speakers stressed that climate change is already causing flooding, drought, and health problems. A WHO representative noted climate factors could account for up to 21 percent of Nigeria's disease burden. Organizers said stronger environmental governance and partnerships are needed to turn ecological risks into green assets and jobs.
