Energy experts in Nigeria are urging the government to stop treating methane emissions as waste and instead convert them into usable energy. By capturing methane from rice fields, oil facilities, and coal mines, the country could potentially provide cooking energy for 4.2 million households annually. The proposal includes creating a National Methane Recovery Agency and using satellite data to better track emissions. To fund these projects, the experts suggest a Green Methane Recovery Fund backed by carbon credit revenues and international climate finance.
