Seems like a standard conference announcement. The real test is whether the REA can actually scale those mini grids beyond pilot phase and keep them running. Maintenance is always the weak link.

Agree. The DARES program target of 17.5 million connections is ambitious. I'd like to see a breakdown of how many of those are already operational versus still in planning. World Bank money helps but execution is everything.

Carbon capture in Nigeria's extractive industry is a tough sell. Most of the emissions there come from flaring and fugitive leaks. Capture only makes sense if you have the infrastructure to transport and store it. That doesn't exist yet at scale.

True. The regulatory reforms mentioned would need to create a clear carbon price or tax incentive to make capture viable. Without that, it's just talk. The Petroleum Industry Act has provisions but implementation is patchy.

Worth noting that local solar panel manufacturing is on the agenda. Nigeria imports almost all its solar gear. If they can build a domestic supply chain, that cuts logistics emissions and creates jobs. But the capital cost for a fab is huge.

Exactly. And even if they make panels locally, the grid needs upgrades to handle distributed generation. REA's mini grids are off grid mostly, but if they ever interconnect, voltage and frequency control become real problems.
