The Energy Commission of Nigeria, together with the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, will hold a three-day summit on the low-carbon hydrogen economy from June 23 to 25, 2026, in Abuja. The event will bring together over 50 federal ministries, agencies, private sector partners, and international development groups. Nigeria has large natural gas reserves and strong renewable resources but has not yet led African hydrogen investment, unlike Morocco, Egypt, or Namibia. The summit aims to close that gap by building national alignment around hydrogen production, infrastructure, finance, and governance. The summit includes 15 technical sessions covering production technology, logistics, market mechanisms, and regional integration. It draws on existing Nigerian policies such as the National Energy Policy 2022, the Climate Change Act 2021, and the Energy Transition Plan. Organizers expect the discussions to produce a 10-point Hydrogen Leapfrog perspective and voluntary institutional commitments. The summit is supported by the EU-Nigeria Energy Diplomacy Support Project, the German-Nigeria Hydrogen Office, UNIDO, and the African Development Bank.
