Two clean energy companies, Vara Energia and HydroThermIA, have proposed a framework to the Nigerian government that they say could unlock $3 billion a year in carbon finance. The plan centers on containerized units that capture flared gas at industrial sites and convert it into hydrogen and power. It was presented to the Department of Climate Change in Abuja. The project fits with Nigeria's National Carbon Market Framework and its updated NDC target of cutting emissions 32 percent by 2035. The companies say the approach would cut diesel use for heavy industry, bring in verified carbon revenue, and eventually support green hydrogen and ammonia exports. The government has not committed to the plan yet, and the $3 billion figure depends on credit prices and international demand.
