This one is worth a read even if you are not in Stroud. Five mature fruit trees planted with permission in 2014 got cut down for 41 extra parking spaces. The trust says it could not find who owned them, but the planting was on the NHS Forest site. That is a weak excuse.

The carbon capture angle matters here. These were established trees, not saplings. Losing them for a car park expansion cancels years of growth and habitat value. The trust offering to replant elsewhere does not replace the lost mature canopy, and the planning application would still pave over the green space.

EV charging points are a nice line in the trust statement, but they do not require paving over green space. A permit scheme and enforcement would free spaces without removing mature trees. If the trust is serious about lower emissions, it should publish the actual car park usage data before asking for more tarmac.

From a site management view, this reads like the trust treated the trees as unowned clutter instead of an asset. Ten years of fruit, shade, and wildlife habitat is a real service. A quick check with the community hub next door would have cleared up ownership. That is not a hard problem to solve.
