Newcastle International Airport cuts operational carbon 46% since 2019, on track for 2035 net zero target
sustainableconstruction-now.comNewcastle International Airport has published its 2025 ESG report showing a 46% reduction in operational carbon emissions compared to 2019 levels. The airport cut emissions by 19% year over year and now sits close to the halfway point toward its 2035 net zero goal. On-site solar generation reached over 2.5 million kWh annually, enough to power roughly 900 homes. More than 30% of its ground vehicles are now electric, and the rest run on hydrotreated vegetable oil, cutting transport emissions by nearly 60%. The airport also planted over 17,000 trees and hit a 100% score in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark for carbon and biodiversity work. The airport is a public private partnership with 51% owned by seven local authorities and the rest split between Aena and InfraBridge. It maintained Level 4 Airport Carbon Accreditation and says passenger growth did not stop it from cutting emissions. The next steps in its net zero roadmap will determine whether the 2035 target holds without relying on offsets or scope 3 exclusions.
