Newcastle Airport has established a 10 hectare woodland near Corbridge, planting over 16,000 broadleaved trees. The project is part of the airport's broader strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2035. The new woodland is expected to absorb more than 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. 4,000 tonnes over the lifetime of the forest is a tiny drop in the bucket compared to airport emissions. Do they have a plan for the actual energy transition at the terminal, or just the landscaping?

The article says they leased the land from Allendale Estates. It would be interesting to know the lease term. If the lease is short, the long term carbon storage is not guaranteed.
