Newark and Sherwood District Council cuts corporate carbon emissions 12%, boosts solar to 360,000 kWh
newark-sherwooddc.gov.ukNewark and Sherwood District Council has reduced its corporate carbon emissions by 12% in 2025/26, bringing the total to 2,542.7 tCO2e. The council credits a growing solar PV fleet, which generated over 360,000 kWh on site, up from 84,921 kWh the previous year. It also secured £5.5 million for housing retrofits and planted 110,000 trees. The council is targeting Net Zero by 2035 and received substantial assurance from internal audit on its governance. The council's Green Rewards scheme engaged 700 households in over 66,000 low-carbon actions, saving an estimated 157 tCO2e. Alexander Lodge, a low-carbon temporary accommodation scheme, generated 67,000 kWh in its first full year. These initiatives support the council's long-term goal, though the path to 2035 will require continued investment and policy follow-through.
