Newark and Sherwood Council Cuts Carbon Emissions 12% in 2025/26, Quadruples Solar Generation
newarkadvertiser.co.ukNewark and Sherwood District Council has reported a 12% reduction in its corporate carbon emissions for 2025/26, bringing total emissions down to 2,542.7 tCO2e. The council is working toward a net zero target by 2035 and highlighted significant gains in solar generation, which rose from 84,921 kWh to over 360,000 kWh across its estate. The council also secured £5.5 million in funding for housing retrofit and energy efficiency improvements over two years. Other actions include planting 110,000 trees and expanding its Green Rewards scheme, which has seen over 700 households complete 66,000 low-carbon actions. The temporary accommodation scheme at Alexander Lodge generated 67,000 kWh of renewable electricity in its first full year. While the reduction is notable, the council acknowledges more work is needed to meet its 2035 goal. The report points to ongoing efforts in electric vehicles, route optimization, and exploring lower-carbon alternatives to diesel.
