New Zealand is introducing a voluntary nature credit market to encourage the restoration of native forests. State farming enterprise Pamu has already committed to converting 600 hectares of marginal farmland into native bush to generate high quality credits. This move addresses a gap in the national Emissions Trading Scheme, which historically favored fast growing pine over native species. By using international standards and grouped project models, the initiative aims to make native reforestation financially viable for landholders.
