The New Zealand government has endorsed three international governance bodies to improve the quality and credibility of voluntary carbon and nature markets. This move aims to attract private investment into local restoration projects, such as wetland recovery and native planting, by providing a clear quality signal to investors. By aligning with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market, the Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets, and the Paris Agreement's Crediting Mechanism, New Zealand seeks to address persistent integrity concerns. The government will also create a domestic pathway for accrediting schemes and allow projects on conservation estate land through specific concessions.
