East Farm Habitat Bank in Wiltshire is now selling biodiversity units to developers who need to meet the UK's Biodiversity Net Gain requirements. The scheme, run with the Environmental Farmers Group, offers area-based habitats, wood pasture, parkland, and watercourse units in the Salisbury Plain and West Wiltshire Downs areas. Developers working on infrastructure projects in that region can buy these units to offset habitat losses elsewhere. East Farm says it has already started creating the habitats, and its in-house ecologist expects the units to be in high demand nationally. This is one example of how farmers are turning conservation into a revenue stream while helping developers comply with environmental rules. It also highlights the growing market for natural capital projects in England.
