A new nonprofit called SPECTRA, the Super Pollutant Elimination Alliance, launched this week to help companies tackle superpollutants like methane and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). These gases are far more potent than CO2 in the short term, and the alliance aims to close a gap where corporate teams often work in silos on compliance, carbon markets, and regulation without a shared framework. SPECTRA will provide independent guidance on voluntary and compliance carbon markets for superpollutants, translate regulatory requirements like HFC phase-downs into actionable steps, and offer best practices for mitigation by sector. It also announced a partnership with SyndicatedCarbon to build market infrastructure for superpollutant abatement projects. For companies looking to cut emissions fast, superpollutants are one of the quickest levers. SPECTRA plans to release its first annual report and hold a corporate roundtable at Climate Week in New York later this year.
