Researchers have developed a way to manufacture metal-organic framework (MOF) glass by using ancient glassmaking modifiers. By adding sodium or lithium, they lowered the melting point of the material, making it possible to create glass that physically locks carbon dioxide and other gases within its structure. This breakthrough allows for the creation of gas separation membranes and carbon capture coatings that were previously too fragile to produce. The process also includes a leaching step to increase pore volume, improving the material's capacity to store and filter greenhouse gases.
