New Climate Scenarios: World Likely to Exceed 1.5C Warming Limit

Recent scientific data suggests a narrowing of plausible climate futures. While the most catastrophic high-end warming scenarios are now less likely due to the growth of solar and wind energy, the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is now considered unreachable. Researchers indicate the world is currently on a path toward 3 degrees Celsius of warming by 2100. While the rapid drop in renewable costs has lowered the worst-case projections, carbon emissions remain high enough that the Paris Agreement targets will likely be exceeded.
