Recent climate research suggests a narrowing of plausible future warming scenarios. While the adoption of solar and wind energy has made the most catastrophic high end projections less likely, the global community has not moved fast enough to maintain the 1.5C limit set by the Paris Agreement. Scientists now indicate that the world is on a path toward roughly 3C of warming by 2100. While the extreme 4.5C scenario is now viewed as improbable, the best case scenarios still expect to exceed the 1.5C threshold, highlighting a gap between policy goals and actual emissions reductions.
