Researchers have developed a manganese ferrite catalyst that removes phenol from water by turning it into solid polymers instead of using traditional radical-based oxidation. This method reduces the need for heavy chemical oxidants and prevents the creation of toxic intermediate byproducts. The study shows the catalyst remains stable over long periods and works across various water types, including river water and secondary effluent. This approach offers a more sustainable path for industrial water treatment by focusing on selective pollutant polymerization.
