The removal of a proposed deferred harvesting pathway and stronger safeguards against logging shifting to private land are key improvements in the Improved Native Forest Management method. According to the NCC, the economic case for native forest logging has already collapsed, and the new carbon value could allow NSW to earn revenue by protecting public forests. That revenue could fund a fair transition for workers, create regional jobs, restore degraded forests, and build recreation facilities. The NCC also stressed that any carbon credits generated should only go to hard-to-abate industries, not to extend fossil fuel projects.
