New all-electric fire station in Reigate aims for carbon neutral operation
premierconstructionnews.comReigate in Surrey has a new all-electric fire station. The 950m2 building replaces the old Croydon Road station and is designed around firefighter workflows, with separate clean and operational areas, a new appliance bay, and showers close to the crew entrance. It also includes a gym, a wellbeing garden, and gender neutral facilities. The station uses solar panels, a high performance building envelope, and careful energy management to run without fossil fuels. An ambulance touchdown base for South East Coast Ambulance Service supports joint working between emergency services. Pick Everard handled design up to RIBA Stage 3 and technical advice from Stage 4, with Neilcott Construction building it. Funding came from Surrey's Fire and Rescue Authority and the county council. The project is part of a wider move toward net zero public buildings, though operational energy data will be the real test.
