Chapman Construction has completed a new 6,000 square foot net zero headquarters for the Monadnock Conservancy in Keene, New Hampshire. The fully electric building is designed to be net positive energy and passed a blower door test at 0.34 ACH50, which is tighter than the Passive House requirement of 0.60 ACH50. The project used recycled glass products for concrete and insulation, battery powered construction tools, and tracked A1-A5 upfront carbon emissions during construction. Power is supplied through Eversource from renewable sources, and the site includes a drainage swale for stormwater management. For nonprofits and builders exploring low carbon construction, this project shows how value engineering can keep energy performance goals within budget. The combination of embodied carbon tracking, efficient building systems, and renewable power supply makes it a useful reference point for similar projects.
