Carbon capture ready is a vague term. Does the ship have the physical space and power overhead to actually run a capture system later, or is this just a marketing placeholder?
Retrofitting these things is always a gamble on space. If the footprint is as compact as they claim, it helps, but the maintenance on scrubbers in saltwater environments is usually a headache.
The focus here is on SOx and particulate matter for regulatory compliance. The actual carbon reduction depends on whether they ever activate the capture part of the system and how that carbon is handled onshore.
