Nepal to Present Climate Disaster Resolution at Inter-Parliamentary Union Meeting in Tanzania
etvbharat.comNepal's Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal, says the country will push an emergency resolution on climate-induced disasters at the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in Tanzania. Nepal is coordinating with more than 50 countries through its Foreign Ministry to build support for the resolution. Aryal plans to argue that Nepal contributes a negligible share of global carbon emissions yet faces severe losses from floods, avalanches, and other climate-related events. The move connects to broader loss and damage discussions and to calls for climate justice raised at the UN General Assembly. Nepal's delegation will also highlight that its parliament is inclusive, with over 37 percent of members under 40 and significant representation from marginalized communities. The outcome may show whether parliamentary diplomacy can translate into concrete financial or policy commitments for vulnerable countries.
