NEG8 Carbon Joins Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers to Pilot DAC With Waste Heat
carbonherald.comIrish direct air capture company NEG8 Carbon has joined the Denmark-based Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, a programme backed by Google, Microsoft, Schneider Electric, and others. The move gives NEG8 a route to pitch its DAC systems to hyperscale data center operators looking for net zero solutions. NEG8's technology uses waste heat from data center operations to capture CO2 from the air. For every tonne of CO2 captured, the system produces two tonnes of pure water and provides cooling as a byproduct. Captured CO2 can be permanently stored for carbon credits or sold as feedstock for eFuels and other products. The practical appeal is that data centers get an alternative to district heating and a way to address water and cooling demands. The open question is how much heat the process actually requires and whether the energy and cost numbers hold up beyond pilots.
