The real question is whether the local waste infrastructure in Thailand can actually handle PLA. Without industrial composting, this just shifts the waste problem from oil to corn or sugarcane.
Agreed on the infrastructure. Most facilities are not set up to sort PLA from PET. Until the sorting tech catches up, this stays a niche product regardless of capacity.
75k tons is a start, but I want to see the energy profile of the plant. If the process is powered by a coal heavy grid, the carbon benefit of the bio plastic is mostly eaten up by the production energy.
