Natural White Hydrogen Discovery in Canada's Canadian Shield

Researchers from the University of Toronto and University of Ottawa have documented sustained natural hydrogen production within the ancient rocks of the Canadian Shield. By measuring gas release in an Ontario mine, the team found that these geological formations could provide a domestic, low-carbon alternative to fossil-fuel-based hydrogen production. This discovery suggests that white hydrogen could support local industrial hubs and northern communities, reducing the need for expensive transport and storage infrastructure.
