NATS, the UK's leading air navigation services provider, has committed over $600,000 to a carbon dioxide removal portfolio managed by CUR8. The portfolio includes biochar credits from Carboneers, direct air capture credits from 1PointFive, and mineralization credits from O.C.O Avonmouth. This investment is part of a broader UK Sustainable Aviation initiative to stimulate the carbon removals market through a 2 million pound advance market signal. NATS handles 25% of European air traffic and aims to reach net zero by 2035 and become carbon negative by 2040. The company is also pursuing solar installations, energy conservation, fleet electrification, and natural gas phase-out. This CDR purchase is one of the first investments tied to the sustainable aviation coalition's effort to scale greenhouse gas removals for hard to abate sectors.
