Researchers at the National University of Singapore have developed a way to extend the lifespan of sodium-ion batteries by using a graphitic carbon nitride additive. This new approach improves electrolyte conductivity and prevents the formation of dendrites, which typically cause short circuits and fires in battery cells. In lab tests, the modified batteries lasted over 2,000 hours compared to 250 hours for standard versions. The prototypes also maintained 95 percent of their capacity after 500 charge cycles, offering a safer and cheaper alternative to lithium-ion storage for grid and industrial use.
