National Tree Day 2026: Irish schools can claim free Scots Pine saplings for carbon and biodiversity education
nenaghguardian.iePrimary schools across Ireland, including County Tipperary, are invited to participate in National Tree Day on October 1, 2026. The Tree Council of Ireland and Glennon Brothers are offering 2,000 free Scots Pine saplings to schools through www.treeday.ie. This year's theme, 'Planting for the Planet', focuses on how trees support wildlife, capture and store carbon, and provide renewable timber resources. Schools can claim a sapling and access classroom resources that explain the journey from forest to finished timber products. The initiative aims to help children understand carbon sequestration and the lifecycle benefits of wood products. Last year, 56 schools in Tipperary participated. The Scots Pine is a native Irish species, making this a suitable educational tool for teaching about local ecosystems and sustainable forestry.
