NASENI Halilu Decarbonisation Drive: Green Jobs, Solar Manufacturing, and Clean Energy in Nigeria
tgnews.com.ngNigeria's National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is pushing a broad decarbonisation agenda under CEO Khalil Halilu. The agency is building a 40-hectare renewable energy industrial park in Nasarawa State to manufacture solar panels, lithium-ion batteries, and wind components locally. It is also expanding its solar manufacturing facility in Abuja toward 100 megawatts of annual output, aiming to cut reliance on imported equipment and lower deployment costs. NASENI has partnered with the Rural Electrification Agency to supply locally made solar panels and batteries for off-grid communities. In agriculture, the Irrigate Nigeria Project targets 3.14 million hectares of farmland with solar-powered irrigation to replace diesel pumps. The agency has also launched an electric tricycle (NASENI Electric Keke) and a clean cookstove initiative with Powerstove Energy that produces 40,000 units monthly to reduce deforestation and indoor air pollution. These projects aim to create jobs, expand energy access, and cut emissions simultaneously.
