Bristol-based startup Mykor has secured £4 million to scale the production of construction panels grown from mycelium and agricultural waste. The company aims to replace high-carbon insulation materials like polystyrene with bio-fabricated alternatives that sequester carbon and reduce energy use during manufacturing. With £338 million in offtake agreements, Mykor is positioning its MykoSIP system to meet tightening UK and EU building regulations. The technology focuses on reducing embodied carbon in the built environment, which currently accounts for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions.
