MXene Phase Change Materials for Thermal Energy Storage: Solar, Battery, and Building Uses
bioengineer.orgResearchers from China University of Petroleum reviewed how MXene nanosheets can fix the main weaknesses of phase change materials (PCMs), which store heat when they melt and release it when they solidify. MXenes add thermal conductivity, stop leakage, and allow PCMs to charge from sunlight or electricity. That makes the composites useful for solar thermal storage, battery cooling, and building temperature control. The review covers manufacturing methods, encapsulation strategies, and limits like MXene oxidation and high production cost. These materials are promising for smoothing renewable power and improving energy efficiency, but they still need to prove long-term cycling stability and economic viability outside the lab.
