Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has committed to cutting carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and is installing solar power systems across its projects to reduce reliance on diesel generators. As of January 2026, MSF has installed over 92 solar systems, saving roughly 132,000 gallons of fuel per year. The organization is also replacing old air conditioners with models that use up to 65 percent less energy and insulating warehouses to cut cooling demand. These changes are happening in remote and conflict-affected areas where grid power is unreliable. MSF says the shift improves both environmental footprint and patient care by making health facilities more autonomous. The organization also targets waste management and water use as part of its broader greening plan.

Worth noting MSF is a nonprofit so these decisions aren't driven by carbon credit revenue. They're doing it for operational resilience and ethics. That's a different incentive structure than most corporate decarbonization.

Insulating warehouses in hot climates is a no brainer. Low cost, high return. The AC swap out matters more for energy bills than carbon in most of these locations since grid mix varies wildly.
