Wildfires in Mount Rainier National Park are still burning, and crews are focusing on protecting historic structures like the Sunrise Visitor Center. Fire teams have cleared trees and brush around the buildings to create defensible space, reducing the chance that flames or embers will ignite wooden structures. The Wonderland Complex Fires are active in the northern part of the park, while the Grand Park 2 Fire is fully contained. Several areas remain closed, including parts of the Wonderland Trail, the Northern Loop Trail, and the Grand Park area. Sunrise Road is open to hikers and bicyclists only. The park has had a fire ban in effect since June 26. Visitors should check the National Park Service website for the latest closure list before heading out.
