Morpeth RFC halves carbon footprint with hedgerow planting and car sharing

Morpeth Rugby Football Club in Northumberland has cut its estimated carbon emissions in half through a partnership with local farmer Mike Dungait and his business Green Acres. The club planted a hedgerow in the wettest part of its training pitch to capture carbon dioxide and reduce heavy rainfall impact. Members also adopted car sharing, litter picks, and improved recycling. Head coach Dungait said the changes started with skepticism but quickly gained traction. After the first discussion, half the number of cars drove to the next game. The project shows how small, practical actions at the community level can deliver measurable carbon reductions without large capital investment.
