Morocco and Norway have established a cooperation roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions using carbon market mechanisms. The agreement focuses on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, allowing the two nations to trade internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (ITMOs) to meet their climate targets. The partnership includes a Generation-Based Incentive program aimed at deploying 2 gigawatts of renewable energy and battery storage between 2026 and 2036. This performance-based subsidy model is expected to cut up to 10 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2030.
