Monmouthshire County Council has partnered with Enterprise Car Club to replace aging pool cars and reduce the council's grey fleet with 12 dedicated hybrid and EV vehicles. The cars are available for staff to book by the hour or day for essential business travel, aiming to cut carbon emissions and operational costs. The pilot addresses rural transport challenges where car travel is often the only option. Enterprise Car Club has over 1,300 vehicles across the UK, and this initiative is part of its expansion in South Wales. The partnership includes assessing the council's travel needs to tailor the scheme. If successful, the pilot could become a model for other rural councils looking to decarbonize staff transport without sacrificing service delivery.
