Mohawk has been named the GreenStep People Award winner for 2025, recognized for its decade-long partnership with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The company has supplied flooring for more than 100 mortgage-free smart homes built for injured veterans and first responders, using products from across its portfolio including RevWood laminate flooring. Mohawk says RevWood captures and stores carbon during tree growth, with more carbon stored than emitted during manufacturing. The flooring also carries FloorScore low-VOC certification and was the first laminate wood flooring to earn NALFA's Platinum Level LF-02 sustainability certification. Would like to see the system boundary behind that RevWood claim. Cradle-to-gate? Does it include transport and installation? Wood products can store carbon, but the number only means something if the LCA is public.

The FloorScore and NALFA Platinum parts are concrete. The carbon claim is marketing until there's a published LCA. Still, it's progress that a flooring award writeup talks about carbon storage instead of just looks.

100 homes is small scale, but adapted housing retrofits matter. Durable, low-maintenance flooring is a practical choice there. If Mohawk publishes embodied carbon per product line, architects and contractors could actually spec on it.
