Mohawk College Joyce Centre Earns Zero Carbon Recertification from Canada Green Building Council

Mohawk College's Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation has been recertified under the Zero Carbon Building Performance standard by the Canada Green Building Council. The building uses geothermal energy, rooftop solar panels, efficient design, and an all-electric system to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. It serves as a living laboratory where students and visitors can see low-carbon building technology in action. The recertification confirms the building continues to operate as designed. The Joyce Centre recently hosted the 2026 PIVOT Conference, bringing together industry professionals, educators, and students to explore climate solutions. Mohawk College notes that while the Joyce Centre was purpose-built for high performance, the college's biggest opportunity for cutting emissions lies in modernizing its existing campus infrastructure, work that is already underway. The building's ongoing performance depends on the day-to-day work of the college's Facility Services Operations team. The Joyce Centre remains a key demonstrative site for the college's Climate Action Plan, helping people make concrete connections between building design and sustainability outcomes.
