Moeve and ENSO Partner on Biomass, Renewable Gas and Biogenic CO2 for Industrial Heat
chemanalyst.comMoeve and ENSO signed a partnership to replace coal and natural gas used for industrial heat with biomass, biomethane, and e-fuels. The focus is on chemical, paper, and food and beverage plants, where continuous steam demand makes electrification difficult. ENSO already runs a biopower plant in Garray, Spain, that captures food-grade CO2 from biomass, and the two companies plan to expand that kind of carbon utilization. The deal also includes potential co-investment structures to reduce upfront costs for industrial buyers. No project capacities, commissioning dates, or fuel replacement volumes have been announced, so near-term price impact on natural gas or chemicals is likely limited. The bigger question is whether biomass supply and the economics of renewable gases can compete with conventional fuels once Spain's cogeneration auctions open.
