MODEC and Eld Energy Partner on 1.2 MW Power System with Carbon Capture for Zero-Emission FPSOs

MODEC and Eld Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a 1.2 MW power system integrated with carbon capture for future zero-emission floating production storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs). The system is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of capturing CO2 from onboard power generation on offshore platforms. The 1.2 MW scale is relatively small compared to typical FPSO power demands, which often exceed 50 MW. This suggests the project is more of a technology pilot than a full-scale solution. If successful, it could provide valuable data on the engineering challenges of integrating carbon capture into floating offshore operations, including weight, space, and storage constraints. The MoU is an early-stage agreement, and no timeline for construction or deployment has been announced. The partners will likely need to secure additional funding and regulatory approvals before moving to the design and build phase.
