Mission Zero, Airhive, and Progressive Energy Plan 60,000-Tonne DAC Plant on Teesside, UK
carbonherald.comThree UK companies have teamed up to build a large direct air capture facility on Teesside. The UnionDAC project aims to capture 60,000 tonnes of CO2 per year once fully built. Phase one targets 20,000 tonnes per year by 2030, with an expansion to 40,000 tonnes more by 2032. The plant will sit at the Wilton International site and connect to the Northern Endurance Partnership's carbon storage network. Airhive brings a low-cost DAC system using fluidised beds and mineral sorbents. Mission Zero Technologies contributes its electrochemical DAC process already running at commercial plants in the UK and Canada. Progressive Energy, the developer behind the HyNet carbon capture hub, handles project delivery. The partnership combines different DAC approaches to reach scale faster.
