Front and Biomason launched Mimmik, a floor tile made using bacteria instead of traditional cement. The tile uses Biomason's Zymecrete technology, where bacteria bind carbon and calcium to grow a marble-like material. The result is a concrete-style tile with at least 60% lower carbon emissions than standard cement tiles, according to the brand. Mimmik is available in two colors, Ginger and Pepper, and comes in 400 x 200 x 19 mm panels suitable for commercial floors. This product targets the construction sector's reliance on cement, a major source of global CO2 emissions. By offering an industrially produced bacteria-grown tile, Front and Biomason aim to give specifiers a drop-in alternative that does not require changes to installation methods. The clear binder also lets local aggregates show through, which could reduce the need for added pigments or coatings.
