Milkywire has finalized a new round of durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) pre-purchases backed by Salesforce, securing over 3,600 tonnes across eight suppliers. The portfolio includes direct air capture (DAC), biomass storage, and ocean alkalinity enhancement projects from companies like Sirona Technologies, Yama, Carba, and PRONOE. These purchases are part of Salesforce's $100 million commitment to durable CDR by 2030, providing early-stage funding for first-of-a-kind deployments. Each supplier brings a different technical approach, from heat pump integrated DAC in Europe to biomass burial in landfills and alkalinity enhancement in India. The deals signal growing corporate demand for permanent carbon removal and help de-risk emerging methods. However, the tonnage is modest, and questions remain about verification, energy sourcing, and long-term monitoring for these novel approaches.
